We’re all the Sameunderneath

Ever thought you could change the world? Well Ryan Christensen, founder of the social and fashion enterprise Sameunderneath, does. The concept behind his blossoming clothing business is relatively simple. No matter the color of your skin, what boxes you select on election day or how you wear your hair, we are all the same underneath. Although Sameunderneath was first the title of a school curriculum Ryan created, it was when he realized that students were more interested in what people were wearing than what teachers were saying that the idea to pair fashion with social and environmental awareness was born.

In Sameunderneath’s home base just off the bustle of N. Mississippi Ave. you’ll find t-shirts, track jackets, accessories and even a few things to wear out for a night in the green city. In addition to the unique graphics designed and screened by local artists, the coup here is Sameunderneath’s use of bamboo as the foundation for its clothing line. While most of us on this side of the Pacific think of bamboo for flooring, bamboo fibers are showing up in everything from towels to boxers. And once you’ve handled a garment made with the rapid growing grass, you’ll know why – bamboo adds a soft, supple and durable feel to anything it touches. So if you are ready to broadcast your respect for people and the earth, wrap yourself in one of Sameunderneath’s duds and you too will know that it’s hip to be green.
